Hardware Module System

With the vicCORE module system (VCMS)voice INTER connect has made its DSP-based prototype and system platform available to a broad user base. The heart of VCMS is the CORE module, containing a Blackfin processor from Analog Devices, memory and audio peripherals, as well as system plug-in connectors, which allows for combination with numerous application-specific expansion modules. The evaluation boards address different target applications and provide application-specific interfaces and connectors in addition to the power supply. Peripheral boards permit networking and expansion of the CORE module with actuators, memory and sensor modules. Dedicated board support packages (BSPs), operating systems and application libraries complete the hardware platforms and allow for accelerated prototype generation with minimal development effort.

The vicCORE system concept is based on the consistent modularisation and interface compatibility of individual functional modules as well as a generic software concept. Hardware modules can be combined through integrative, robust system connectors and thus allow for rapid prototyping and the minimisation of development time. The CORE modules are based upon the Analog Devices Blackfin family and contain the central processing unit, the DSP, and also data and program memory as well as an interface for the acquisition of speech and test signals.

The evaluation boards address typical target applications. They support the CORE module and further peripheral boards, and provide the power supply as well as application-specific interfaces and connectors.

The peripheral boards assist networking as well as application-specific expansion of the CORE board with sensor and actuator modules and memory. With the aid of the system connector, it is possible to stack different peripheral boards according to the target application.
