Our vehicle intercom projects in 2025 are driven by the mission of providing outstanding voice quality for everyone. In commercial and emergency vehicles, driver-team communication can be difficult due to ambient noise, cabin acoustics, and the need for multiple communication connections. In the event of an emergency, clear communication is essential – this is where our innovative speech enhancement algorithms and hands-free operation offer tangible product advantages. Thanks to our passion for exceptional acoustics and careful vehicle integration, our customisable, ready-to-install solutions provide stable voice quality and require minimal servicing. Read on for insights into this year's innovations in vehicle intercom technology.
Telephony, multimedia applications and voice-based operating concepts in vehicles and autonomous robots require sophisticated speech capture technology to produce high-quality audio that can withstand background noise and is not affected by the speaker's position. Vehicle outdoor microphones can be used to detect emergency vehicles, acoustic events and people in the vehicle environment, and to implement innovative operating concepts.
Since December 2025, our A2B-based vehicle microphone, which has automotive certification, will be available for production projects. Using microphones from our technology partner, Infineon, makes them even more sensitive and reduces noise, enabling them to capture speech over a wider dynamic range. In addition, we have reduced electrical interference sensitivity. The microphone is ideal for innovative microphone arrays and ensures consistently high quality delivery thanks to its extremely low sample variations and 100% sensor testing.
Thanks to their pronounced directionality, compact microphone arrays are ideal for flush mounting in vehicle cockpits. They amplify speech arriving from the preferred direction more effectively than noise arriving from the side, thus increasing speech intelligibility.
The active noise filtering performed by our 4-channel microphone can be adapted to the geometric conditions in the vehicle cabin by adjusting the directionality parameters. The microphone supports analogue and digital voice output (the latter via USB) and can replace electret capsules or gooseneck microphones directly. This makes it ideal for retrofitting and as an accessory for existing standard solutions in the infotainment and intercom sectors. A mounting kit is available to order for installation.
If required, we can customise the form factor, filter behaviour and number of microphones as part of a joint project.
As a standardised processing unit for advanced audio scenarios such as active noise cancelling, telephony with dynamic speaker detection, in-car communication or passenger-specific multimedia functions, VIC developed an embedded platform or vehicle on-board computer with numerous vehicle-specific interfaces:
The embedded platform is ideal for audio and voice processing in commercial and emergency vehicles. The platform comes pre-installed with the following software as a basis for customer-specific application development:
This allows customer-specific products to be implemented quickly and economically, from requirements specification to series delivery. We offer maintenance and service for the entire service life of the product.

Standard wired intercom solutions often require complex cable harnesses and can support a maximum of two intercom stations per vehicle. If the intercom stations are located further apart, electrical interference in the microphone or loudspeaker cables can result in poor audio quality.
vicCOM CAR intercom stations use a 2-wire bus cable, which can be up to 500 metres long, for transmitting digital voice and control data. Each of the up to eight installed intercom stations has its own microphone and loudspeaker connections to prevent interference via analogue cables. The digital AudioRT bus enables multiple simultaneous voice connections to be transmitted with minimal latency. Advanced signal processing allows the firmware to adapt to changing environmental conditions, delivering optimal voice quality at all times. These features ensure straightforward installation, reliable communication and energy-efficient operation in emergency and commercial vehicles.
Our passion for exceptional acoustics enables us to provide you with custom-made, ready-to-install solutions that ensure consistent speech intelligibility, whether you are working with agricultural or construction machinery, emergency and rescue vehicles, or trains and other forms of passenger transport. Off-the-shelf intercom solutions typically deliver poor speech quality and require time-consuming tuning. This can lead to delays and unpredictable service costs in highly customised vehicle concepts and cost-driven project work.
We support customers in acoustic cabin planning and material selection through intensive exchange on specific requirements. Together, we develop an installation concept that is precisely tailored to the vehicle's production processes and operating conditions.
Through project-accompanying consultancy, acoustic measurements and simulations of the vehicle cabin, parameterisation support, and final validation including objective speech quality measurements, we ensure that your communication systems function reliably in every vehicle type, eliminating the need for additional effort or unexpected service cases and creating the basis for high customer satisfaction and loyalty.
Communication between the driver and the team in commercial and emergency vehicles is challenging due to ambient noise, cabin acoustics, and the multitude of communication connections. Find out how voice INTER connect addresses these challenges.
Electret microphones and MEMS microphones are widely used types that differ significantly in terms of design and application. We explain when each microphone is best suited.
